The risk is due to water seeping more and more quickly into the ground surrounding the dam after last winter’s record high water levels.
If we do have heavy and prolonged rains this fall and winter, many previously untouched homes and businesses in the valley will see flooding.

What is a backflow prevention assembly?
A backflow prevention assembly gets installed on your main sewer line on the outside of your home. It has a flap that only opens one way, acting like a door to keep water from the city sewer out. If the city sewer lines flood, the water could back up into your home if you don’t have a backflow prevention assembly. This installation helps make sure your drains flow away from your house as usual, regardless of the city sewer system’s water level.
Who needs a backflow prevention assembly?
Many homes in our area today have a backflow prevention assembly on their water supply, however very few have them on their sewer line. Anyone who is concerned that the main city sewer could be impacted by potential flood waters should be concerned about the sewer backing up into their home.
