Plumbers have to deal with two out of the three most damaging elements in your home; water and natural gas. It is very important when hiring a plumber to make sure you have someone with the experience and knowledge to make a proper repair and avoid costly problems down the road.

  1. Who answers the phone when you call the company? An answering machine or voice mail? The plumber himself or a customer service representative? Be wary of answering machines, you never know if the plumber will actually call you back. At Pats Plumbing we have knowledgeable customer service representatives answering your phone calls and e-mails.

  2. What kind of warranty does the company offer? The standard warranty at Pat’s Plumbing is 30 days on drains and 1 year on labor and material. Some specific items have longer manufacturer’s warranties, like water heaters or garbage disposals. Be sure to ask your plumber about any available guarantees. We offer many different warranty options, when you call to schedule an appointment our friendly staff will answer all your warranty questions.

  3. How long has the company been in business? This is important because a solid reliable company is going to be around in a year or two when you need more work done or you have a warranty problem. We have been servicing communities in the Northwest since 1988.

  4. How can a plumber quote you the consumer a fair price over the phone before ever even seeing the job? There are many reputable companies in the community that do not quote prices over the phone. It is always a good idea to have your plumbing job assessed before a realistic price can be agreed upon. Don’t be discouraged by a company that does not quote prices over the phone, they just might save you money in the long run!

  5. Be sure to ask about pricing. A reputable company will give you up front pricing and will answer any questions that you may have. Also be sure to find out what types of payment are accepted. At Pat’s Plumbing we give the price before we start the job and our experienced technicians with discuss the problems with you and answer all your questions.

  6. What kind of person are you comfortable having in your home? Reputable companies will have tidy, uniformed plumbers in marked trucks. Watch out for a plumber in street clothes or driving an unmarked truck who happens to have some parts left over from a job down the street. This is a scam! Also, make sure the name on the truck is the same name as the company you called. Our technicians drive marked Pat’s Plumbing trucks with our familiar floating plumber logo! Our Technicians also wear clean and tidy uniforms with names on their shirts and jackets.

  7. How does the technician treat your home? Does he protect your floors by wearing booties or taking off his shoes? Does he use drop clothes to protect your floors from his tools and materials? At Pat’s Plumbing our plumbers will leave your house looking neater than it was when they arrived and will take care of your house as if it was their own home. They wear booties over their shoes so that they never mark your floors or dirty your carpets.

  8. Be especially careful about who you hire to install or modify gas lines. Make sure the plumber will pull permits where necessary and test all lines to be sure there are no leaks. Natural gas will sink and pool in low corners of your home. This is virtually undetectable if it is in a wall or under a floor.
